The City2Surf is Canterbury’s biggest fun run!

Wow, what a fantastic turn out we had for the 2021 Les Mills City2Surf. One month on and we are still feeling proud as punch of everyone who was involved in this year’s event. From the many thousand participants through to the sponsors, event teams and enthusiastic volunteers. Each and every one of you are invaluable in making this annual event happen.

When we woke up on Sunday the 21st of March it was a mild start with clouds overhead, the sun came out a few hours later with a light breeze accompanying it. Christchurch was blessed with near-perfect running conditions. It was heartwarming to see people of all ages and abilities getting out and about and moving their bodies alongside fellow Cantabrians.

The on the day atmosphere was something truly special. The 6km and 14km start lines were filled with an energetic warm-up, run by our huge sponsor, Les Mills. People were gathered preparing for their run or walk whilst the many supporters were grabbing their coffees. The 14km course started at Centennial Park and followed alongside the scenic river and through to Hansens Park in Opawa for the 6km start. From Hansens Park, the participants carried on through towards beautiful Ferrymead Park featuring the Port Hills as a backdrop. The Ferrymead Park finish line was absolutely buzzing with people, music and those good food smells. There were corporates teams having bbq’s, kids playing and many stiff and limping humans in sight. The prize-giving began at 12 pm with groups sprawled out and relaxing in the sunshine. We had sponsors giving away some seriously good prizes and with The Hits radio presenter, Dave Nicholas, as MC it was really great entertainment to watch.

We love that the City2Surf Fun Run really is for everyone and a good excuse to connect with family, friends and work colleagues or to set an individual fitness or charity goal to work towards. We are so looking forward to another year preparing for the 2022 City2Surf! See you there!
